We couldn’t eat at Umeke’s without also trying out Da Poke Shack which has a bajillion positive ratings on Yelp. We were thoroughly confused to find this place on the ground floor of what appears to be an apartment complex (huh?).
We stopped by less than an hour before closing so we had very little poke to choose from which was sad. Luckily, what we did have was delicious!
We had real dinner plans later so we were going for a pre-dinner appetizer. That translated into a small poke bowl (much smaller pieces of tuna than Umeke’s but still great flavor and freshness) and some lau lau (surprisingly good – melt in your mouth pork wrapped in banana leaves that was really hard to stop eating) to share. I wish we had gotten a chance to try the other pokes – maybe next time!
